55 Years Later: Pegnitz & U.S. Army Remember 37 Fallen Soldiers

Fifty-five years after a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook crashed near Pegnitz, German and American communities gathered at the site to honor the 37 Soldiers who lost their lives and reflect on a tragedy that remains deeply woven into the history of the region Aug. 18, 2026.

The memorial service brought together local residents and U.S. Soldiers from Grafenwoehr and Ansbach, continuing a tradition of remembrance that has endured for more than five decades.
